How We Met:

He had me at ikura...
It was June 2006 when I first met Bill. My friends were in town from DC and we decided to meet one of my
co-workers out for some drinks. He claimed to be having a "work" meeting, but when we arrived it seemed
there was more drinking than working. We didn't complain. My co-worker introduced us to his two newest
employees - Bill & Zack whom I took a seat next to while my friends socialized at the other end of the
table. Ok, so it wasn't love at first sight. In fact, I think I spent most of the night talking to Zack
because Bill was so quiet. Zack reminded me later that Bill even burped in my face. What a gentleman! But
Bill didn't go unnoticed. At the end of the night (as many girls do) we talked about the boys. I mentioned
that I thought the tattooed one with glasses was cute.
A week or so went by and I think I might have run into Bill once or twice in the office, but nothing too
unique. It's the office after all. We met again at another evening of drinks with some co-workers and
that's when he actually talked to me. He told me about his website and his art and told me to check out his
stuff. The next day I went to work and looked it up and was pretty impressed. I, of course, had to get
approval from my two closest cubemates Charles and Rebecca. But it was a split decision: Rebecca thought
nerd-ville and Charles voted yes. What Rebecca couldn't appreciate was that I am a huge nerd too. She must
know that by now....
We started exchanging emails and I urged him to join the company's softball team. To my surprise he came to our
first game with Zack. We chatted for most of the game and then when it was over they invited me to join them for
dinner. Of course I said yes. We went to our now favorite Fort Lauderdale restaurant Stir Moon. I ordered sushi
rolls...but was longfully eyeing the pile of ikura that was sitting on Bill's plate. (For those of you who don't
know...ikura is japanese for salmon roe...and is my FAVORITE sushi). When I was done he offered up his ikura! I
couldn't believe it...who would want to share their precious salty bursts of goodness?! Maybe he didn't like
them...no that's just crazy. It didn't matter...I got the ikura. I smiled and graciously accepted. Now this was
what dreams are made of...a guy who will share his ikura. I know that sounds crazy, but it's like finding the person
who loves all the chocolates you hate in that mixed boxed. He definitely had me at ikura...

She had me at San Diego...
Life works in mysterious ways and things that you desire can sometimes have a strange way of coming to fruition...
I often tease Robyn about how I started dating her because she was from San Diego and I could easily talk her into
going back to paradise. Since I was younger I had always dreamed of settling in SoCal and I was really close to making
that a reality back in 2006 when I was set on moving from Vegas. I had started seriously considering going to SD and
had several job interviews and some solid leads forming. I ended up getting a good opportunity out of the blue in FL
that was kind of hard to pass up. I was super reluctant to go to FL because it was probably on my top 5 places of never
wanting to live...but I went anyway thinking that somehow it would help set up a path to a great future for me.
I think I was in FL for about a week and a half when I first met Robyn. We didn't chat a whole lot because I'm kind
of quiet and we were drinking a bit while having a nice dinner and I'm an even quieter drunk...although Robyn disagrees.
We saw each other in passing at the office and she mentioned something about joining the company softball team. Of course
I joined...cute girl and chance to find some cool peeps to hang out with. Robyn invited me to meet up for July 4th in
Hollywood and then a week or so later to hang out and ride bikes.
She was super easy to get along with and we had a lot of fun together. It wasn't long before we were hanging out all
the time. I knew our relationship was something of substance as we started to do a lot of non-rev trips. We just had
such a great time and clicked so well. I knew I had found someone that I could definitely spend a lifetime with. It was
the first time in my life where I continually had déjà-vu about being with someone...Robyn calls it something different
but I'm not good with words so let’s just call it that. It happened to me more than a handful of times. We could be
sitting in Jamaica eating dinner, in FL hanging out at the beach, or anywhere together and that image etched in my mind,
vibrant like a painting was right in front of me. I felt like I already knew this moment was coming but it was the present
and I wasn’t dreaming.
...Truth be told, it kind of freaked me out a bit but somehow I knew that I was exactly where I was supposed to be and
with exactly who I was meant to be with…
