Getting There......................................................................................................................................
There are two airports on Maui.

  • OGG (Kahului) is the larger airport and has service to/from the mainland. OGG will be the easiest and cheapest to fly into.
  • JHM (Kapalua) is the smaller airport and has only inter-island service on small planes. If you are staying in Lahaina or Ka’anapali this airport is closer.

Flying into OGG can be expensive but we’ll try to give some helpful tips to finding the best deal. Check out the following air carriers that fly non-stop from the mainland to OGG:

If you plan to visit other islands on your trip, flying to HNL (Honolulu, Oahu) might be the best option. You can get a ticket to HNL and buy a separate inter-island ticket to get to Maui. Hawaiian (www.hawaiianair.com), go! (www.iflygo.com) & Island Air (www.islandair.com) all fly inter-island flights.

So here are our tips to finding a good deal:
  • Fly to HNL instead. Most carriers fly to HNL since this is the popular destination and it is often the cheapest. But don’t forget to buy your separate ticket to OGG. If you book early you should be able to get a roundtrip ticket from HNL-OGG for about $90 which includes all taxes and fees.
  • Look for tickets out of nearby major airports. Flying out of LAX will typically be cheaper than flying out of SAN.
  • Set up farecast alerts for your trip (www.farecast.com). It will help you keep an eye on average fares.
  • Be flexible. Adding stops can help decrease your price and give your legs a chance to stretch on that LONG flight. Plus you’ll get more frequent flier miles!
  • Come early or stay longer. Flying on off peak days Tues, Wed can help you save a few bucks and give you more time to enjoy your stay.
  • Check often! Airfares change a lot...so keep your eyes open.

If you are in doubt, feel free to email one of us. But in general consider a fare around $400 from the west coast and $600 from the east coast a pretty good deal.
